So this is the last Valuable Content Award for 2012. We’ve showcased some great websites this year: from professional firms to design agencies, fitness to flooring; from giants like Intel to one man bands.
This month we are delighted to present the award to our youngest ever winner – by a long shot. Martha runs Perfect Puddings and she is only nine.
Whether you are looking for cup cakes, mince pies, a quirky birthday cake or even tarte tatin, Martha can bake it for you. She’s set up a little business offering her services locally, and the orders are coming in.
To help her promote her fledgling business Martha sensibly decided to set up a blog. And on it she posts pictures of the cakes she makes, ideas on how and when to use them and tips on decoration for anyone to use.
I asked Martha why she takes this approach, and here’s what she said:
“I love baking and I thought I’d give people some ideas so they could try it themselves. If they were organising a dinner party they might have the time to make their own cakes and my tips would be useful. But if they wanted some cakes for their office they might not have time to bake their own, and then they’d think of me!”
Perfect Martha! Quite intuitively, you demonstrate all the valuable principles that we know work so well. Know your customers; show your enthusiasm; generously keep giving away information that is useful or inspiring and you’ll be rewarded with people’s interest and their trust. No hard sell required.
Congratulations Martha – your award badge is on its way. There is a lot that much older business people can learn from you. And please can I order some mince pies for Christmas day?
